I passed hunters Ed with a grand score of 100%! Two people in the entire class got that score. Me and some other girl… think her name was samantha. Anyways, we both got a cool oregon hunters callender which is now on the wall in the living room. The entire class passed, and the instructors said that this was actually their first class ever to have everybody pass! It was cool :D. Feild day was fun and you can read about it HERE, yes, right here…

Almost done!

Filed under: From HSB — BenjieP @ 12:55 pm

hey all! I’m almost done with hunters ed now… Saturdays’ field day was really fun! I’ll tell you a little about it… we did(and in this order):
1. Skill Test
2. Shotgun
3. Compass
4. Fire building
5. Archery
6. Blood Trail
7. First Aid

so yeah, there was a bunch of stuff, took about 4 hours! I’ll give a description of each now…

Number 1: Skill Test.
Skill test was preatty fun aside from the fact that we had to wait around for like 10 minutes out in thw wind for it… Rebecca and I were late so we got grouped with some other late kids who were still doing the first part of skill test. The first part of skill test was basic gun handling… I got skipped on shotgun though, they did .22 on me and I told em “yeah… I’ve shot a rifle before”, did everything right, everything they said in class *yawn*, then I asked them if I should go through shotgun and they were like “nah I think you’re ok on that” :] soo yeah, then after waiting around, we got to actually walk around and cross fences with the guns, did everything right with that too… ’twas pretty fun… there were a lot of cars around. I got asked to take a shotgun(empty yes) out of the guys truck, did everything right, and I put it back in… then we moved on to…

Number 2: Shotgun
Now I really do enjoy clay pigeon shooting so this was just great. They had a 20 gauge so, barely any kick. pretty easy, I missed a number of the clays, but oh well, it was fun anyways. those earplugs are weird. Then after everybody had taken their turn(I was first), we moved on to

Number 3: Compass
The instructor of this one was a funny guy, probably around 60, he made the adults take the class who were with the other kids. told us all about compasses and explained them pretty well, and gave us candy afterwards! we tracked to the one piece of wood and he said to pick of the other one and asked what it said on it… it said “Nope!” and the one we got to said “Good Job!” and then he was like “And look what’s underneath it! CANDY! you hit the jackpot! Everybody gets one!”. hehe so that was pretty cool… got some good candy… Then we moved on to

Number 4: Fire Building
One of our instructors in class did this one, we all sat around a good fire(which was nice because it was cold out) and he told us basicly how to start a fire and what to bring with you to start a fire… already knew how, but it was fun anyways :). Then we moved on to

Number 5: Archery
This one was the quickest class of them all! The guy was probably 25 or so, told us “this is a compound bow, this is a longbow, you don’t want to shoot a compound bow dry. That means to shoot it without an arrow. The reason is, you don’t want to shatter the bow. ok? who wants to go first?” it was very quick, everybody shot one arrow, some kids decided to shoot some more while we waited for…

Number 6: Blood Trail
We waited around the campfire for about 10 minutes and just sorta talked. Joe’s younger daughter just bellow Carolyn(she’s taking the class too) was helping the instructor keep the fire going… I dunno if she knew where her dad was :P. Anyways, we did the Blood Trail, and it was fun! took us some time to get to the end of it, they said they made the blood out of ketchup and jello. It looked pretty real! and some of that blood was awfully hard to find… but finally, at the end, the blood started getting more frequent so, some of the kids started running forward. Then the instructor said “yep, they’re probably all gonna start running”, then something caught my eye! I turned around and there it was. a pair of antlers with a smorse box between them. And THAT was the deer we were tracking :D they gave us candy bars :P. Then after that, we walked back and finally made our way back to the lodge and there we took a class on….

Number 7: First Aid
we learned about what supplies to take and stuff like that. the lady doing it had her son there doing demonstrations, funny kid, he hardly said anything at all as if he couldn’t talk, and on one of the ABC’s of first aid (Airwaves), he demonstrated having your head in a side position where the airwaves aren’t clear… then the lady moved his head up to a more breakable position and he started choking on a chip he’d been eating :P. He was alright but it was funny, I was like “your airwaves are real clear now”.

And after we got out from first aid, we were gonna go do the pelet gun shooting, but Rebecca needed to go home so she could get ready for work. so, we asked the instructors if it’d be alright if we went home. And our instructor said that’d be fine, just to bring our little card with us to class. So, now we’re almost done! Tonight’s the last class(or, we may have an extra I’m not sure), so we’re almost done! It’ll be fun! I’ll let ya know how it goes once I’m home… possibly tomorrow :).

seeya’ll later!

Benjamin

P.S. Expect an entry about last night sometime soon.

It’s my new word… ha! I’m gonna be 15 in a month! Christy tuned 16 yesterday, she’s exactly a year and a month older than me :D. Should be interesting to be 15… I dunno, everybody told me 14 was a good year and… well… it actually was :). I wonder what 15 is supposed to be… Any ideas?? I haven’t updated this blog much this year though… I was very frequent when I was 13 :). ok so enough rambling! I bet you’re wondering what’s been happening…Mary’s in haiti and she just made a New Post about a waterslide! She says it’s about 96 degrees out :D. Nice and warm around there… It’s cold here though! Not extreem cold but pretty cold. The furnace hasn’t required much maintanance due to it not being extreem but it’s still been cold… Anna and Caleb and their family now have their new house! I haven’t seen it yet though, I should see it sometime soon… They live by the river supposedly, that’s cool… Ummm yeah, I think I’m gonna learn C++ maybe, that’ll be cool… I’m now in Revelation in my bible reading… Last time I got done with the bible the night before my birthday. This time, well I guess it’s gonna be a couple weeks!Been going to hunters ed. Last night was about field dressing. They showed a video :P. It was… interesting. I’ve decided that I’m best to study before I go to bed and let my mind calculate it over night. Before I go to bed is when I actually feel like reading or doing anything of the sort… but the only problem is that I like going to bed late! I guess I’ll have to fix that… Late isn’t always great. Oh well…So, It’s a sunny day outside today, but it’s cold :P. maybe it’ll warm up :D. At any rate… I don’t know what else to say sooo bye!Benjamin

Sorry for not posting very much… I’ve been pretty sidetracked :). I don’t know how many of you knew that baby Paul took sick but… he died two days ago. he was very malourished and week for his age and didn’t have much of a chance really, I guess God just took him a little early :).

on to other things… I’m in hunters Ed now, in case anybody of you didn’t know… and yeah, I’m about halfway through. Mostly pretty easy stuff, they give you trick questions though :P. oh well… most of the kids at hunters Ed are from the 10-13 age sooo not much around my age. I think there might be some girl who’s 14 in there but, I don’t know her sooo I guess I’m just stuck :). I’ll just hang out with the little kids :P.

I’ve been thinking about posting for a while now, but just now actually got around to doing it. I haven’t been keeping this blog up very well… I’m not sure what to do with it now. I wonder if anybody’d really think much of it if I kinda took a hiatas(sp?) from HSB for a while and did other stuff. We’ll see…

well, I guess that’s about it, see you all later for now… bye!

Mary’s e-mail.

February 13, 2007
Filed under: LJ — BenjieP @ 2:46 am

I don’t think I mentioned that Mary made it to haiti but, here’s the e-mail she shared on Her Blog(Please check her blog for further updates): EMAIL WE JUST SENT TO MINNIES FAMILYHello from Minnie and Mary,Share this email with the family please!Flying was long, we had a delay from Fort Lauderdale which was about an hour, so we were late. When we got to the airport it was really hot and there was a funny band playing banjos and dancing singing “shoom vaaa looom” (means “your not here”) or something like that. We wanted a video but we were to nervous to get it out!We met a lady on the plane that works at another orphanage, she is going to keep it contact with us through email. She helped us find where to go. There was an old man holding our sign upside down… We didn’t believe him, so the lady interpretted for us that he worked there and was showing us where the men were that were meeting us. We went and got the cart for a dollar and people were trying to help us, but we just said no and gave them looks. We went through customs and then he (the old man) made everybody move for us because we were American. We got outside and there were a whole bunch of people waiting on the other side of a fence greeting us and trying to help! Then the old man brought us to “Reggy” whos name is actuallu Sajay, but we didn’t know that til we got back. Pat sent her little girl Amanda who is 8 with the men and she speaks Creole and English well, so she interpretted. The driver was interesting. We were in an extended cab short toyota pickup and a lot of people drive them. Everybody honks and drives everywhere! Lanes are totally different and people walk in between the cars on all sides. It was amazing how he was able to dodge them! Once we were out of town, we would drive on the left side of the road a lot until somebody was coming, then he would drive to the other side and so would the other car or bus. It was a bumpy ride or about 2-3 hours up and around in the mountains, but it was relaxing compared to getting on and off of airplanes and all the travel. It’s really pretty out here and there are lots of villages with huts and interesting sights kind of like Africa! Palm trees, fruit trees and other greenery… There is some really good juice here that taste kind of like grapefruit/orange. The food is good and we like the meat. We’ve been holding babies since about 5 minutes after we arrived. There are 3 babies that need your prayers especially. Baby Paul is 9 months old and arrived an hour before we did. he is very malnurished and wieghs about 7 lbs. He is responding to our love and care and can eat 1 ounce at a time, but we have to feed him from a medican cup. The other babies are twins that are 2 days old. They arrived at the same time as Paul and weigh 3lbs 3oz and 3lbs 9oz. They are in Pat’s ICU incubators. They are doing well, but one of them is on Oxygen. Their names are Isaac and Luke for now. The little children (ages 1-5) are downstairs, and if we go down there, we just about get toppled over! They alllllll come around trying to climb on us and try to hold our hands and ask if we are their mommy. It’s really fun. We are learning their names and will hopefully be able to send pictures soon. (Minnie) is going to stay up with baby Paul tonight. He wants to be held constantly and his cry is very quiet and weak. Mamma, keep trying the cell phone! It’s busy because the company is limited, but it doesn’t charge her cell if you call.We better go now, we’v got work to do!Much Love, (Tell everybody we love ‘em)Minnie and Mary
